Every year since 2011, I have made block prints as a meaningful way to connect with friends, and to promote holiday sales. The block print is a simple means to make a small piece of art which, though one of many, is a unique object original to the recipient’s space and time. It can be as ephemeral as a simple note, or as enduring as a framed print.

Fundamentally different from social media, which compels us to scroll endlessly, promising instantaneous yet easily forgotten connection, a printed card is a handmade tactile object, sealed in an envelope, manually conveyed in a human-mechanical relay over broad expanses of physical terrain, upon delivery of which confers a specificity and intimacy that exists in no other way. Nothing beats getting a letter in the mail, except maybe getting art.
